Next Step Running was created in 1994 by Princeton High School (New Jersey) coaches Hannah Herman and Rich Dafter. It was originally a club for pre-season high school cross country practices. When Rich Dafter moved to New Mexico in 1996, the name came with him..

Next Step Running is now a resource for running products and information for road and trail running. Rich Dafter started running on September 1st, 1966 and now lives and trains in Albuquerque, NM. He trains with Polar Heart Rate Monitors for running. He has been using Polar heart rate monitors since August 5th, 1986 when he bought the Polar Vantage XL using part of the settlement money from a bad car accident. Polar’s GPS running watches don't only measure your heart rate and calculate your running pace and distance automatically – they're packed with smart features that help you see your progress and stay motivated. All you need to take care of is the best part - the hard work itself. He is currently training with the Polar Vantage V2 and wearing a Polar H10 transmitter strap.
